One of the most significant Russian archaeological findings of the late 20th century was the discovery of the Siberian Ice Maiden, first reported in theSiberian Times.

Uncovered in 1993 at a grave site in the Republic of Altai, the mummy, also known as the Princess of Ukok and the Altai Princess, dates back to the 5th century B.C.

An MRI scan revealed that the Ice Maiden died of breast cancer. Archeologists also discovered a pouch of cannabis buried alongside her and have suggested that she was likely using cannabis to cope with her pain.
